Monday, June 8th, 2015, the 6th Leadership Club (LC) Generation, which is the Ubaya FBE postgraduate student organization held an International lecture on “Comparative Management Accounting Practices: UK/USA vs. GERMANY vs. JAPAN”. This international general lecture is specifically targeted to students and alumni of Master of Management (MM) and Master of Accounting (Maksi). Chaired by Mohammad Waskito W., the event took place at the Ubaya FBE Postgraduate auditorium, Jl. Raya Kali Rungkut, Surabaya.

“This international general lecture is one of the many activities held by LC this year, the event is held to add insight for postgraduate students,” said Veronica Hogan who is President of the 6th LC Gen. The lecture invites speakers from abroad namely Professor Shahzad Uddin, a Professor of Accounting and Director of Essex Accounting Center in University of Essex, UK. He often travels to deliver seminars in various countries to share the results of research he has done.

On this occasion, he shared one of his research results on management accounting practices in the countries of USA, Germany, and Japan that led to the comparative use of management accounting in each of these countries. This 2-hour event went smoothly. The material presented adds great insight into the factors that influence behavior in Management Accounting applications in developing countries and the technique of delivering material was also very easy to understand.peserta-kuliah-umum

“Through this seminar, I get a clear picture of how the practice of management accounting in USA, Germany, and Japan, and speakers from abroad is good to train my listening skills, though somewhat disappointed because the material is less elaborated,” said Betsy who is Class 13 Maksi student.

This international lecture is very useful in enhancing insights from an international point of view and provides a broad overview of how the application of a theory can vary across countries because of the various factors that influence the application of that theory. At the end of the event, Dr. Putu Anom Mahadwarta as the Head of MM study program and Mr. Bonnie Suherman as the Head of Maksi study program highly appreciated the general lecture delivered by Professor Shahzad Uddin. “I am very interested to attend this international general lecture because it can add insight about management accounting practices widely,” said Dr. Bonnie Suherman.
