Wednesday, May 6th, 2015, The 6th Leadership Club (LC) Generation which is the Ubaya FBE postgraduate student organization held a Yoga Workshop themed “Restorative Yoga as Anti-stress”. This workshop is targeted to Master of Management and Master of Accounting students and alumni. Chaired by Patricia Stevanie, the event took place on the 5th floor of Ubaya library, Jl. Raya Kali Rungkut, Surabaya.
“The Yoga workshop is one of many activities held by LC this year, the event is held actually to help relieve the stress experienced by the postgraduate students because the majority of them are also working. Having a very busy business activity will certainly produce pressure for students who are less able to cope. This activity is purposely held adjacent to the exam week to be more useful for participants. With peace of mind and a cold head, then all can be done properly,” said Sonny who is the 6th LC Vice President Internal.
The workshop was led by Robert Chris Lee, a professional yoga teacher with RYT-200 certification. Robert started the workshop by introducing yoga, its benefits, and types to participants. In accordance with the theme, Robert chose Hatha Yoga with the basic movements of yoga that can relieve stress. Participants followed 10 movements showed by Robert seriously but casually.
Benny, (Class 47 MM student) who is also a participant said, “The movements taught were quite easy to follow and can be applied at home. This workshop is fun and very useful for me.”
This 3-hour event went smoothly. After demonstrating the basic movements, Robert opened a question and answer session for the participants about yoga. The participants enthusiastically asked interesting questions so that the workshop became more interactive. At the end of the workshop, Robert invited all participants to meditate for a moment. Robert invited participants to meditate and chant OM (AUM) sound that is useful for relaxing the body, calming the mind, and improving focus.
This workshop felt very useful and gave a new nuance for FBE postgraduate students because previously there has been no soft skill training program like this event. Dr. Putu Anom Mahadwarta who is the Head of Master of Management study program is very appreciative of this event. He said, “This event is one of the creative events, not only for our knowledge as well as to help stress release and relax. Hopefully, we can take benefit of this activity. Salute!”
Lots of benefits that can be obtained from yoga, especially when done regularly. In addition, to relax and reduce stress, yoga can improve flexibility, strength, happy spine, bone density, blood circulation, detoxification, cardio, and calming. Hopefully, this kind of event can be held again so that it opens our insight to not only learning and working but also sports. (*WP,RR,SEP)
